With over 300 vehicles on exhibit from over 26 countries The Tank Museum welcomes over 200k visitors every year.

The Tank Museum has multiple exhibition halls that include tanks from World War I & World War II, plus the Tank Factory, that explores the design and technology that goes into making tanks and AFVs. The Tank Museum hosts multiple special events throughout the year including their world famous ‘TankFest’, model shows and Tiger Days plus fairs and even weddings!

The Tank Museum offers a great day out for all the family with onsite restaurants and cafés to cater for visitors. Their shop and merchandise have always been popular with visitors taking away special memories from their visit, when the global pandemic hit they saw a dramatic growth and higher demand in online sales. With more visitors than ever before and sales on the up, The Tank Museum took the opportunity to invest in an EPOS and Ticketing solution that could handle their plans for continued growth.

The Reason for Change:

With visitor numbers continuing to increase year on year due to the growth of their exhibitions and events, The Tank Museum had just been adding to their existing EPOS system when they needed to over the years. The demand for online ticketing and online membership management was becoming increasingly popular in the visitor attraction sector and the museum knew they had to make a change.

Their old system was clunky, had an outdated design and their online ticketing platform wasn’t mobile responsive. The Tank Museum were looking for a new solution that could manage all of their onsite transactions, online ticketing & admissions and link to their ecommerce store. They looked into the visitor attraction software market and found VisiSoft.

The Solution:

The Tank Museum needed a modern and reliable solution that could handle the increasing use of online ticketing and a system that could handle Gift Aid and Memberships. So we started a process of requirements meetings and demos for every area of the product to understand how the museum wanted to use their new solution. The use of our online ticketing platform ‘VisiTickets’ provided an option for personalisation on the Gift Aid screen to help encourage Gift Aid and Donations from members which was key for the museum.

The solution that VisiSoft provided to The Tank Museum includes EPOS solutions for both their retail and hospitality outlets, online ticketing and admissions, membership and Gift Aid management, an ecommerce link to their online store, stock control for all retail outlets, a commercials module to control back-office accounts and a direct integration into their finance software Sage 50.

 

The Benefits:

Moving away from a disjointed system and implementing a new EPOS and ticketing system that gives the management a holistic view of the entire business meant everything could be managed in one place. With reports available for everything in the business that matters to the museum, managers were able to report on things like customer data and break down customer types to target marketing campaigns and gain a better understanding of their member types. Every report has been designed and developed by VisiSoft alongside the team at The Tank Museum to ensure they are getting the data out of the system that is important to them.

In terms of online ticketing and membership management, the entire booking process has been streamlined. Members and ‘Friends Of’ can all login to book and manage their bookings online, without the need to call the museum to rearrange. This self-service approach means that more members book online and capacity management is easy to control. With The Tank Museum having a good understanding of their average footfall every day, week or month, they can organise appropriate staff levels, reduce wastage and plan resources based on their expected numbers.

The Project

On this project VisiSoft has hit every target set out by The Tank Museum, from initial discussions all the way through to implementation. The ‘Go Live’ date was very important and was set out by The Tank Museum in an initial requirements meeting to coincide with a slightly quieter season at their attraction, this was worked to all the way through the project and the target was hit successfully.

The transition of any business operations is always a huge project, the VisiSoft team communicated throughout the entire process to management and made sure they knew where the project was at, also requirements checks were made throughout to ensure the system worked as required once live. We worked with 3rd parties to implement the IT requirements and connect to the online store. Plus, extensive onsite training was provided to the team at The Tank Museum before ‘go live’ so they could hit the ground running once live. A handover to our support team once the project was live meant the support of the entire team continues and is available when and if they should need it.

This was a special project for us, we’d like to thank The Tank Museum for being an early adopter of VisiTickets. Everyone involved has worked hard to get this project live and it is very rewarding to see the success of the implementation.
